The new Tech 3 brake lever replaces the Tech Evo brake lever. Hope has tried to keep the advantages of the Tech Evo brake lever but improve the ergonomics and integration of shift levers on the handlebar.
The Tech 3 brake lever works with all current brake calipers and is 5% stronger than the Tech Evo lever. You can still adjust the lever reach and pressure point and the piston is operated by a cam and roller system so that the lever can be pulled without free play and jamming parts. The two-part clamp for attachment to the handlebar simplifies installation as you do not have to remove anything from the handlebar to install it.
Some of Hope's customers found the Tech and Tech Evo brake levers to be relatively bulky and found it difficult to find space on the handlebars where they already had to mount triggers for the rear derailleur, front and rear suspension and adjustable seat post. For this reason, Hope has endeavored to create a brake lever with the Tech 3 that integrates easily with the other triggers and remotes. As a result of this design, the brake lever is no longer the same for left and right. However, the Tech 3 can be combined with the Shimano I-Spec trigger without a special lever clamp. A delicate and unobtrusive lever clamp is available as an upgrade for SRAM.
V4 brake caliper: Advanced one-piece brake caliper, milled from a single piece of 2014 T6 aluminum. The increased rigidity of the V4 brake caliper optimizes braking performance and the larger brake pad surface ensures better heat dissipation and reduced pad wear. The V4, including adapter and discs, is lighter than its predecessor, the V2 brake.
Discs: The V4 brake works with the traditional floating disc or the V4 ventilated disc. The ventilated disc enables superior braking performance. The concept is identical to our floating discs, but with the ventilated discs the air can circulate between the two braking surfaces. Laboratory tests have shown that a ventilated disc stays up to 15% cooler than a traditional floating disc.
In addition, braking power is improved in wet conditions because water can flow through the braking surfaces. The internally ventilated disc is the best choice for mountain bikers who want to ride longer and steeper descents.
