Smooth and precise shifting has always been a hallmark of Shimano. With the Hyperglide+ cassettes, this has been further perfected. The shape of the individual teeth is designed so that there is hardly any noise or vibration when shifting to a larger sprocket or downshifting. Despite this, the chain is held more reliably, and potential slippage is effectively prevented. In addition, the time required for a gear change has been significantly reduced.
Shimano uses a mix of materials in the cassette's construction. While the smallest sprockets, which have the least chain wrap and are subject to the highest load, are made of steel, the middle sprockets are made of titanium. The three largest sprockets and the spider are made of high-grade aluminum. This load-optimized use of materials results in even wear of the cassette and also extends the chain's lifespan. Furthermore, it significantly reduces weight.
