As one of the contact points, the shift levers are an important connection between the rider and the bike. Compared to the M7000 Shifter, the operating forces have been reduced by 35% thanks to a modified gear ratio in combination with a lower cage tension on the rear derailleur. The proven Rapidfire Plus shifting logic with levers that can be switched on both sides (2-way release) has been adopted from the previous version. However, the M7100 Shifter with its revised internals shifts faster thanks to Instant Release. The shift cable is released immediately when the lever is operated, allowing the rider to react even faster to changing track conditions.

With the I-Spec EV version, the lever can be attached to SLX M7100 brake levers in a space-saving manner. In addition, the installation using the new standard offers a 14 millimeter wide lateral adjustment range and the shifter can also be rotated by 60 degrees.
