• While aerodynamics were critical in the development of the Tarmac and all our road bikes, weight was a competitor on this optimal road bike journey. Early "aero bikes" always compromised on weight—the more drag you reduced, the more weight you gained. With the new Tarmac, our design philosophy was to get it under the UCI weight limit without compromising on aerodynamics. Using the FreeFoil Shape Library, tools like isotopic FEA analysis, and a little engineering from the best engineers in the business, we created a Fact 9r frame that weighs just 1010 grams without sacrificing a single gram of aerodynamics, stiffness, or ride quality.
• As we continued to develop the perfect road bike, we applied our Rider-First Engineered™ philosophy to ensure the new Tarmac is the most balanced and best-handling Tarmac ever—regardless of frame size. With an army of the world's best test riders from our three World Tour teams—Boels-Dolmans, Deceuninck-Quick-Step, and Bora-hansgrohe—we made changes to the Tarmac based on their thousands of miles on the road. We balanced the ride quality between the front and rear triangle so that even the longest days in the saddle remain comfortable—without sacrificing the Tarmac's legendary handling and race-winning geometry.
• Based on learnings from the Venge, the new Tarmac leverages simple integration to create a clean, fast cockpit that's easy to live with. We've improved cable routing for every configuration—mechanical shifting, traditional stems, rounded bars, etc.—while maintaining its aerodynamic credentials. These same qualities also make the new Tarmac easy to maintain and easy to transport. It's a win-win for everyone.
